Resurrecting Imitation

Looks from the IOC line circa 2007/Getty ImagesRight about the time the whole world was going Y2K crazy, actress Tara Subkoff was joining forces with Matt Damhave and Chloë Sevigny  to create what would be come one of the most controversial American labels ever, Imitation of Christ.  The line, which can be credited with creating the reworking vintage design genre, became known for it's hipster following and sometime gimmicky runway shows, but was at it's core  genius.

Unfortunately, just a few short years after IOC launched , and after a series of personal struggles faced by the founders including a life-threaten brain tumor which Subkoff struggled to survive, the company closed it's doors.

But like all epic style stories, the Imitation tale doesn't end there.  Earlier this week Subkoff sat down to talk with Harper's Bazaar, about her health and her plans to relaunch her line.

The actress turned designer told the magazine: "I've decided to bring back IOC in its most basic incarnation: easy-to-wear staples with an edge. I'm calling this line just "Imitation." I'm inspired by Coco Chanel and her use of jersey. I'd like to do that with Imitation. I want something as effortless as a T-shirt, but in dress, trench, and jacket shapes."

While there is no official launch date for the resurrected Imitation the blogosphere is buzzing with rumor of Subkoff's return as soon as Fall 2011.
