Menswear trends: Get ready, get prep
Ed Westwick as Gossip Girl's Chuck Bass/Image courtesy of CWTVCall it the "Chuck Bass effect", or maybe it's due to the inexplicable popularity of BRAVO's NYC Prep, but this fall menswear labels and glossies seem to be growing weary of the unwashed skinny jeans and shaggy beards that have dominated for the last two years, and opting for a cleaner style. Add to the fray last week's announcement that iconic institution of higher education, Harvard is launching Harvard Yard, a well edited collection of menswear, and the end of the "hipster" guy seems imminent. But will this ivy league inspired style play in indie-loving San Francisco, or will local boys cling to their beards for all their worth? We asked three real San Francisco guys what they thought about men's fashion, Fall trends and the return of the preppy.

Jamie Roberts, Student Academy of Art University: I love the preppy look, as long as it's done right. It can't be over the top, no university logos or loafers. I draw the line at loafers, loafers are old man shoes.
Rey Andrade, Art Director at T.A.G. : How do I feel about the resurgence of the preppy look? I'm into it. I've always been a fan of the plaids, the primaries and the buttoned collars. I am looking forward to seeing more "smart" dressers out there.

Cary La Scala, Co-Owner Cary Lane: Preppy style for Fall? Oh, I don't know about that. My customer isn't really about current trends, my customer is more about finding great deals on cool pieces, you know a more indie style.
