How to do black and navy blue

According to everyone from Fab Sugar to Fern Mallis, wearing navy and black together is the hot trend for pre fall. But making this mis-matched look work can be tricky, especially when too-close hues give the impression of bad laundry habits, so we scoured the stores to find three great pieces that do the matching for you.

Vena Cava hermetic dress /imge via Forward by revolve

Our first pick, the vintage inspired softly draped Hermetic dress by Vena Cava ($334 at Forward by Revolve). The easy lines and flattering cut give the dress a 1940's feel while black accents add a fresh appeal. Add lady like pumps, and smoky eye make-up as shown above to make a drop-dead style statement.

Marc by Marc Jacobs ballet flat $147 / Zappos.comIf head-to-toe trend following isn't your style try a pop of navy and black with these sweetheart flats by Marc by Marc Jaccobs. Currently on sale at Zappos for $147 these uber cute kicks will bring a subtle trendy flair to jeans, dresses and skirts.

Color block tank dress $4.50/ Gap.comWhen affordability is the main drive in chosing ob-trend pieces, nothing is sweeter than finding the perfect little summer ( or early fall ) dress at the GAP. Our favorite, this black and blue color block tank as versatile as it is low priced ($49.50). Dress it up with a shrunken jacket and heels, or throw it on over a swimsuit with sandals.
