Weekend live-music round-up
From authentic old-school bands to hipster icons, there is something for everyone this weekend around the bay:
Tonight:
In Oakland, legendary melancholy rockers Echo and The Bunnymen take the stage at The Fox, with supporting act She Wants Revenge, 8PM tickets still available at $42.50. In San Francisco, PopScene is dishing up Canadian new-wave inspired Dragonette. Compared to everyone from Scissor Sisters to Hot Hot Heat, to The Killers, this electropop combo from the north is the perfect fix for your Sony-Casio jones.
Friday:
In San Francisco, The Bouncing Souls are offering up a little pop punk at Slims 8PM $20/$21, while Boys Like Girls, Cobra Starship, The Maine and Rocket to the Moon are taking the Warfield by hipster storm, Show starts early 6:30PM $25-$27. At Bottom of the Hill you'll find Islands (formerly The Unicorns), Jemina Pearl and Toro Y Moi.
Saturday:
At The Independent you'll find Meshell Ndegeocello supported by Beatropolis, show starts at 8.30. At Cafe Du Nord there's a CD release party for Rykarda Parasol with Nero Nava and Murder Of Lilies, and at Bottom of the Hil Budget Rock 8 presents The Mummies, The Brentwoods, The Fever, and Donny Denim & The Spaghettoes. In East Bay, back at the Oakland Fox Theater Mika is taking the stage at 8PM $29.50. Also in Oakland at the Uptown are The Minks supported by Bete Noir at 9pm with a $10 cover.
And finally, on Saturday @ 5.30 there is a global attempt to break the world record for the largest simultaneous dance as thousands will join together to perform Michael Jackson's Thriller.
