Backstage beauty report: Costello Tagliapietra Spring 2014

image:C.Hope for Style WyldeFresh and natural but with a punch of Spring color was the name of the game backstage at Costello Tagliapietra Spring 2014, where teams from Essie Nails, MAC Cosmetics, and René Furterer were working together to get models ready for the runway.

Here's what the teams did, starting with hair.

Celebrity hairstylist Nelson Vercher of Rita Hazan Salon and ArtMix Beauty began by spraying hair with generous amounts of René Furterer Naturia dry shampoo to create a finish that was textured and natural looking. Vercher then used his fingers like a claw, raking them through the hair to rough up the texture. If a model’s hair was super-fine, he gave the hair a light misting with René Furterer VOLUMEA volumizing conditioning spray – no rinse in sections. To create the braid, he gently pulled hair behind the ears, leaving a few wispy pieces in front to frame the face. Gathering hair at the nape, he made three sections and began braiding. He then tied off the braid with a bit of elastic band, leaving the last inch or so of hair unbraided. For natural hold, the last step was a quick once-over with René Furterer VEGETAL FINISHING SPRAY.  "Really, it’s all about simplicity!" Vercher explained.

 Now on to the nails!

Inspired by the leather accents on the Costello Tagliapietra pieces, the team from Essie developed a "leather look" for nails using a base coat of Midnight Cami (navy blue on the right above) followed by a sheer coat of Mademoiselle. The final "leathery" was created with Matte About You top coat over the color blend to remove any trace of shine.  The final result,  leather coated nails, that are surprisingly easy to DIY at home.

And finally, the beauty look created by MAC.

The look of the day was "Natural and Satiny", with skin left clean and soft, and only lightly powdered.  To do this, the artists used MAC Sculpting Cream softly blended to create a baby-soft appearance, and then followed with MAC Prep+Prime Translucent Finishing Powder

Once skin was perfected eyes were lined with MAC Lime Pro Shadow for the lighter skinned models and Iris Pro Shadow on the darker skinned models. MAC Eyeshadow in Gesso was then dotted on the inner corner and blended in for a wide and bright eyed effect.  Brows were then brushed up and lashes got a coat of dark brown mascara but were left uncurled for a natural look.

Finally, lips were given a coat of MAC LipGlass and left otherwise untouched.
