Backstage beauty: Band of Outsiders Fall 2013

image:S.Whittle for Style WyldeFor the  Band of Outsiders Fall 2013 collection, which was a near terminally hip array of 1930's and 40's inspired pieces  reportedly  inspired by the music designer Scott Sternberg started listening to in order to get himself out of a recent debilitating depression, an unusual beauty look was required. To find the perfect fit for the hyper-exclusive show, Sternberg tapped the best of the best, Make-up Artist Dick Page and the team from Shiseido USA to create something memorable.

And memorable it definitely was. Pure cosmetic artistry based on the idea of light and shadows, Page's look played off the natural shadows cast by the collection's low brimmed hats, for a mysterious slightly spooky vibe.

Here's how it was done:

Page and his team created "racoony"(their word) eyes by applying a combination of Shimmering Cream Shadow In Sable (BR709) and concealer into and around the eye area. The shadow-effect was achieved by getting close into the upper and lower lash line, blending over the bridge of the nose and under the eye area with the bottom edge "very diffused." A "faux shadow" was the extended beyond the eyes into the forehead, eye and upper cheek area. Using a sponge to soften, the team "painted" the cream shadow and concealer mix into the brows along the cheekbone and into the hairline.

Finally, Lips  were given a bright red hue using the New Perfect Rouge in Showgirl (RD553) applied with a fluff brush for a defined red lip that was not crisp or sharp, but a sole pop of color on a heavily shadowed face.

The result? A one-of-a-kind-look for the show that was intriguing as it was unlikely to be copied.
