Backstage beauty: The Blonds Spring 2013

image:C.Hope for Style WyldeWild sexpot hair, killer make-up, and mind-boggling nail art were all a part of the Spring 2013 The Blonds runway show. To bring these elements together the label tapped the best in the business, MAC,  Moroccanoil and those creative geniuses at CND Nails to create one of a kind finishing touches for the psycho-beach party inspired collection.

Here's what they did, first up the Make-up.

Led by  key artist Kabuki, the MAC team began by applying Studio Fix SPF 15 Foundation Concealer with Studio Fix Foundation Powder as a base for 60's beach movie sex pot (think Brigitte Bardot)-meets abstract absurdist film look. Once the foundation was set, the team used MAC Bone Beige Sculpting powder on the lower panes of the face to create a sharply contoured cheek.

With the complexion set as a natural yet contoured background, Kabuki and his team moved on to eyes.  A dramatic modern cat eye with lots of liner and lashes, the eye look for The Blonds was a true show-stopper.

As a first step, model's eyes were given a lash line-to-brow bone swipe of Bare Canvas Paint.  Then creases were defined with a blend of coffee eye pencil and wedge shadow for ultimate drama.

From there, Boot Black Liquid Liner was applied to both the upper and lower lash lines leaving small separation at corners to create a super-wide-eyed look, and complimented with defined brows using the not-yet-on-the-market  Brunette Luxe Brow Powder Pencil. As a finishing touch, MAC false lashes#12 and #7 were trimmed to fit each model and layered together for a super lush spider-leggy look.

Finishing out the beach movie beauty, was a soft and subtle lip created with Spice lip pencil and the not yet on the market Posh Tone Mineralize lipstick.

Attached to model's heads with elaborate bands that were made of latex, multi-hued and sometimes jewel encrusted, the wigs created an over-the-top mermaid vibe. To give the wigs an extra oomph, the team from Moroccanoil boosted bounce and shine with applications of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray and Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray.

Finally, what can easily be considered the piece de la resistance of the show, the nails by CND.

Known throughout the world for their creative and innovative designs, both for the runways and for real life, the CND team led by Kristina Estabrooks pulled out all the stops and designed true tiny works of art for the model's hands.

"We love working with The Blonds" Estabrooks told SW backstage at the show. "Their shows are always so creative and fun, and it lets us be creative too". Estabrooks added "This season the theme was Psycho Beach party, so we've taken all the elements of the beach, be it underwater treasure, pearls and crystals, or caviar and skinny dip blue hues,  or black  latex like you'd see in swimsuit, and even sharks with our shark bite and shark fin  looks; we made them ALL into nails. "

But the nail art fun didn't stop with the seaside theme. CND artists also created nails in a variety of other complimentary patterns such as mini "lipsticks" that appeared to swivel up from nails, and bright pink florals affixed to the shiny black background nail.

And if that wasn't enough nail fun for you, the team also created one very extra special set of nails to be worn in the show that bore the visage of The Blonds designer Philip himself, in all his badass blonde glory!
