Any designer who shows at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York, could probably spend hours telling tales of last minute snafus, emergency sewing, and beauty-disasters that they have had to fix that added unbelievable stress and pressure to the process season after season. But for first time participants the pressure is even greater, as your New York debut is the once in a lifetime opportunity to make a first impression on the US media, and major US retail buyers. Getting a beauty team that was vastly experienced, able to work through any last minute snafus, and extremely talented was a must. To achieve this Italian designers, and first time Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York participants, Prete and Bruno  tapped The Vince Smith ExperiencePure Ice Nails,  and the lead make-up artists from The Vince Smith Salon to handle the backstage prep.

Here is what the team did, First the hair:

Hollywood's golden era with a modern twist was the inspiration for the day. Celebrity stylist Vince Smith told SW “I was inspired by the Hollywood celebrities of the 50s and 60s such as Grace Kelly. We made a high chignon on each model but gave it a modern twist with a loose, less fussy finish. We used Redken Hot Sets 22 as a heat styling spray to add volume, texture and shine. Next Moroccan Oil was applied to moisturize and smooth ends. We then twisted the hair up and secured it with Nioxin Fast Finish Hair Spray, and a few well placed bobby pins for added security."

Now for the makeup

Using highly-pigmented metallics from Temptu air brushing, Vincent Smith Make-Up Artists created a glowing eye that was the focal point of the look. To further emphasize the eye, artists used MakeUp For Ever's Aqua Black Liner, with several coats of Make Up Forever Smoky Lash to give eyes that high-glamour finish.

Finally the nails

Not needing an over-the-top textured-or patterned look, key manicurist Leah Pate felt the nail look should complement the jewelry and accessories, which were mostly gold with pearl accents. She opted to use Pure Ice’s Jaguar (a warm, light gold) as the base, and then painted a horizontal line down the middle of the nail using Pure Ice’s Best Friend (a lighter, almost pearl-colored gold).
