Shop focus: The Mission

ED Note: The senseless attacks that took place on Mission neighborhood boutiques and businesses on Monday night are appalling.  No one is currently accepting responsibility for the damage which leaves these locally-owned businesses, many of which were already struggling in the fragile economy, facing major financial stress as they attempt to clean up and keep going. The SW team is committed to supporting these and any other small businesses that are facing bullying and intimidation, and we hope our readers will too! To show your support for local independently owned businesses we strongly encourage our readers to get out and SHOP this weekend in the Mission.

The San Francisco Bay Area is known for its many neighborhoods that exist like independent microcosms, with cultures that differ wildly from block to block. In celebration of the many neighborhoods we call local, Style Wylde is starting a new feature where we focus on one area at a time, sussing out the best boutiques, events and things to check out.   This weekend we'll be heading to the Mission to check out the countless independent and well curated boutiques, fabulous restaurants, and small art galleries that have made the area a major draw for locals and visiting tourists alike.

Just a few must-do stops on our list include:

 Sidewalk Sale at ISSO

Loads of local designer labels at price points ranging from $5-$30  plus major mark downs inside the shop- head to the 19th Street location of ISSO SF this Saturday from 11AM-5PM to peruse the sale and pick up a few great deals.

Mobile Making at Gravel and Gold 

Gallery/Craft space Gravel and Gold will hold an in-store workshop with Michelle Haynes this Sunday from 5-8PM. According to organizers the event will be "Not your grade school art class on cut and paste, this workshop permits the opportunity to experiment and construct ornamental structures set in motion by circulating air currents." Sunday Streets 

Not to be daunted by the attacks, the City of SF is going forward with Sunday Streets, this Sunday from 11AM-4PM along the Valencia Corridor (Valencia Street from 14th to 24th and 24th Street from Valencia to Hampshire). Participating in this event will be many of the businesses that suffered damage earlier this week, including Weston Wear. The locally owned and designed apparel boutique will be offering 10% off all accessories and new arrivals from the Summer 2012 collection.

New  Apparel Arrivals at Dema

A not-so-secret weapon in the search for perfect summer sundresses, Dema is a go-to shop for style savvy San Franciscans . This weekend should be no exception as the Valencia Street shop has tons of new arrivals including springy florals and prints.

Vintage treasures galore at Bell Jar

A little bird told us that one of our favorite boutiques in SF, Bell Jar has a ton of one-of-a-kind vintage pieces hitting the floor this weekend, and seeing as how this shop has made a major name for itself as a true bastion of local style we plan on getting in early on Saturday (try right when they open at Noon) to check out the new stuff.
