Gift guide 2013: Last minute and local

image courtesy of The Cookie DepartmentAs the end of the year draws to a close, last minute gift shopping for that boss you want to woo (into a promotion for 2014) or that sweet colleague who accidentally gift-sniped you earlier in the month, is a must. But last minute shopping doesn't have to equal impersonal gifts and boring run of the mill tokens. 'Tis the season to think local, unique, and totally stress-free. Here are a few of our favorite local and last minute gifts for the holidays and beyond.

For the sweet-tooth in your office:

Assorted cookie box from Berkeley based The Cookie Department

Delicious and "fully functional" these healthnut-meets sweet tooth delights are as good for your bod as they are for your taste buds. Added bonus: hilarious names like "Awaken Baked" and "Chocolate Chip Nookie" will have your pals  giggling all the way to January.

For the ecco-fashionista:

One of a kind jewelry from Nous Savons

We've loved local artist/designer Jocelyn Nguyen and her label Nous Savons since way back in the day, and for good reason! Her reclaimed and reimagined pieces (as well as her new line) have just the perfect balance of whimsy, whit, and style. Lucky for Bay Area Residents, Nous Savons will be attending the following craft and design fairs between now and January 1: The Crucible Gifty Show, The Jack of All Trades Show, and The Renegade Craft Fair.

For your stress case friend:

Gift Card for Kabuki Springs Spa

There are gift certificates, and then there are GIFT CERTIFICATES, one for the luxe Kabuki Springs and Spa is ALWAYS in demand. Whether for an actual treatment or simply a dollar amount to be used at their discretion this is the gift card that keeps on giving via relaxed muscles and a calm state of mind for 2014.

For the FashionHEsta:

Musician/Designer/Entrepreneur Cary La Scala has been on our radar since launching his ingenious chic discount designer boutique back in 2008. His latest enterprise, Cary La Scala, a line of handmade perfectly cut button down shirts for Men, fits the bill for every guy in your life that has an eye for style but maybe not a huge budget. Added bonus: while stopping by either of the 2 Cary Lane locations in San Francisco to pick up a shirt, you can grab a cute little outfit for yourself (at way less than regular retail.)
