In like a lion: March music kicks off around the bay

Ed note: Hello Wyldings! Believe it or not, the SW Music page is not dead, just on a mini-hiatus while most of our writers were out of town. But now that we are all back (and very happy about it) we are getting back to the business at hand: sussing out the best live music shows happening in SF, Oakland, Berkeley, and all over the Bay Area. SO, if you are in a band, or know a band that is playing in the coming weeks, lets us know at : music@stylewylde.com!

Now that that's out of the way let's get serious. This weekend we'll be checking out:

Friday:

Legendary guitarist and vocalist Jinx Jones brings his Jazz trio to Cafe Claude in San Francisco. Show starts at 7:30- perfect for an after work drink and de-stress!

Then later on Friday night, head over to Hemlock Tavern for an indie/psychodelic/alternative rock line-up featuring Starlight Girls, Stages of Sleep, and Gorgeous Byrdmen. 9:30 $7

For those into electronica, Spundae pulls another big DJ out of the hat as they lure Matt Darey to Ruby Skye - tickets start at $20.

If you're into hip hop then Slim's offers the unique sounds of Eligh and Amp Live. Already creating a massive buzz together, this show promises to be something special. Support comes from Shotgun Wedding Quartet, Luckyiam, and League510. The show is all ages, tickets are $16 and doors open at 8pm.

Meanwhile over int he East Bay.....

It's the First Friday at The Uptown in Oakland, that means an early show and no cover! Tonight's line-up includes The Blank Tapes , Whiskermen, Tumbleweed Wanderers and an acoustic set from  Love Dimension. Doors at 6-Show at 9.

On Saturday starting in the East bay this time.....

The New Parish in Oakland is all about Reggae with  J Boog, Hot Rain and DJ Smoky. Tickets are $32 in advance at Ticket Fly, or $35 at the door. Show at 9:30

And over in Berkeley on Saturday,  you can't let a weekend go by without mentioning legendary Punk venue (now the longest continually running in the lower 48!) 924 Gilman, where Saturday night local acts Bay Area Ska MonkeyDay Labor, Imposters, Angry Starfish, and Toriyamas are set to take the stage. Show starts at 7, $10 + $2 membership fee if not already a member.

At the same time, over in SF....

Starting in the Mission at Brick & Mortar are  He's My Brother She's My Sister and Bad Weather California. The event is 18+, doors open at 8pm and tickets start at the bargain price of $8.

If you like yourself some swing, rockabilly, or blues then Cafe Du Nord is the place for you with performances from Vagabond Lovers Club, local boys Slim Jenkins, and Beso Negro. Tickets are $12 and doors are at 8/show at 9.

Legends in their own time, ESG helped define the club sounds of the early 80's along with providing fodder for the sampler's and DJ's of nearly every influential hip hop and dance artist since then. Reformed for one last tour, this is the last chance to see ESG perform live and Mezzanine has the honor of hosting them. With support from  Solar, Conor, and Junior, this is event that music fans shouldn't miss.
