Fashion Week Overview

Tadashi Shoji cocktail dress from Fall 09 RTW/Image courtesy of Tadashi SojiStarting tomorrow in New York City everything will be all fashion all the time. But for those of us in the Pacific Standard Time Zone, catching ALL thee spring collections is more than a little difficult, so we are taking a look back at the  Fall 2009 Shows to see which designers are worth streaming in, and which we will catch in the next-day recaps.

Showing Thursday 9/10:

Style Wylde one to watch: Spanish based Davidelfin.  The Fall 2009 show broke from the neon hues everyone else seemed to be obsessed with and offered sharp shoulders, architectural skirts and luminous leathers in soft grays blacks and whites tons with splashes of reds and purples.  Full slideshow available at WWD.Com

Showing Friday, 9/11

Style Wylde one to watch: Twinkle by Wenlan. Although model turned designer Erin Wasson, will be a major stop for most magazines interested in celeb-chasing and be-seen photo ops, Twinkle’s fun flirty styles with just a hint of retro-glam as seen in the Fall 2009 collection, make this designer’s noon-hour salon show a go-to event.  Full Fall 2009 slide show can be seen at NYPOST.Com

Showing Saturday, 9/12

Style Wylde one to watch: Project runway’s Christian Siriano is arguably the most talented, and best trained contestant in the shows history to date, but is also one of the few to actually execute a collection at Fashion Week after winning the grand prize.  For doubters who thought his runway win was nothing more than a reality-TV set-up, his Fall collection showed soft flowing styles done in a luscious chocolaty color scheme that was nothing short of drool-inducing; a success his Spring show is sure to build on.  Full Fall 2009 Slideshow can be seen on NYMAG.com

 Showing Sunday, 9/13

Style Wylde one to watch: Y-3, With several industry heavy hitters such as Diana Von Furstenberg, Hervé Léger by Max Azria, Derek Lam and Rebecca Taylor showing on Sunday, one could easily spend the whole day in front of the computer streaming Bryant Park, but we suggest catching the recaps of the known-entities after the fact and checking out the sporty chic style of Y-3.  The much lauded fall collection showed a fresh mix of nautical meets athletic field separates and several to-die-for coats; spring is sure to bring more style surprises.  A slideshow of the fall collection can be found at Style.com

Showing Monday 9/14

Style Wylde one to watch: Tadashi Shoji. Another heavy hitter day that features uber designers Zac Posen, Carolina Herrera, Tracy Reese and Donna Karan, Monday’s must see is the lesser known to the mass-market Tadashi Shoji, who impressed with his retro 1980’s cocktail dresses in universally flattering silhouettes with eye popping details for Fall 2009.  To view this collection visit NYMAG.COM

Showing Tuesday 9/15

Style Wylde one to watch: Narciso Rodriguez. The clean lines (without any trace of 80’s poufs and bows) of the Fall 2009 Narciso Rodriguez collection that makes his Spring enticing. Will the controlled architectural influences of Narciso’s past looks help usher in an end to the 80’s trend?  We shall see.  The fall collection can be viewed at STYLE.COM

Showing Wednesday, 9/16

Style Wylde one(s)to watch: Doo.Ri and Anna Sui.  Wednesday is the big game day, Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Nanette Lepore, and 3.1 Phillip Lim are all showing, but it’s the renaissance of Anna Sui, who like the phoenix came back from her 1990’s era heyday and post 90s decline to conquer the industry all over again this past year with huge successes and honors.  Her spring looks which may or may not be Gossip Girl inspired, are sure to be huge crowd pleasers, and hugely replicated all over the mass market.  Additionally, the sophisticated, feminine looks of relative new comers Doo-Ri were bright lights of the Fall 09 stage. Both shows are online at STYLE.COM, ANNA SUI  , DOO-RI

 Showing Thursday, 9/16

Style Wylde one to watch: Isaac Mizrahi.  New York Fashion Week closes with what can only be thought of an “Old American Guard” day, featuring Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and the ever-out spoken Isaac Mizrahi.  No matter what your opinion of his past collections (or Television shows), Mizrahi has changed the face of fashion, with his invention of the high-end designer for Target Stores sales niche, and his frequent forays into entertainment. (Would there be ANY fashion television without Unzipped?)  While some critics accuse Mizrahi of being past his design prime, his shows never fail to be a true style spectacle.  Slideshow of the Fall 2009 show can be viewed at Cotorture.com
