Local love: Body Time Lavender Hydrosol
In today's economic climate we hear a lot about the importance of shopping local, supporting American based companies, and just generally being more mindful of where and how the things we use are being produced. It might surprise you however, that one of the EASIEST industries to shop local and sustainable in, is in fact beauty, thanks to several locally based, eco-responsible companies that create fantastic beauty products that are good for the planet, and the local economy. In honor of these gorgeous do-gooders we are launching a new feature: Local Love, beauty products we can't live with out that are made in the bay area.
First up: Berkeley based Body Time's Lavender Hydrosol.
About the company: Eco-focused long before it was a trend (about 30 years before the trend) Body Time has set the standard for what it means to be a sustainable beauty company both in originating recycling practices and by using botanical based ingredients that are not tested on animals.
Why we love the product: The light refreshing scent, and super soothing lavender properties are key, but it's really the product's versatility that caught our attention. It's great for teens with irritated acne or oily skins as lavender is both moisturizing and anti-bacterial, it also makes an amazing moisturizing spritz for the 25-and over set that battle dryness. If that weren't enough, according to the packaging it can also be used on sunburns and if stored in the refrigerator makes a great hot-flash cure for menopausal women.
Our personal recommendation for use: decant the Hydrosol into a smaller bottle and pop it in your purse for a long flight. Light periodic spritzing will keep your make-up looking fresh, and your mentality soothed even on a trans-atlantic trip.
Body Time Lavender Hydrosol can be found at one of the company's four stores in the East Bay and Marin County or in San Francisco at Collage Gallery, Isso, and Revolver.
